日本・オーストラリア
Japanese-Australian dance artist, educator, writer and curator whose work centers on cross-cultural exchange and diasporic experiences. Raised across Japan, India, Thailand, and Australia, her "third culture kid" identity informs her movement practice—a blend of contemporary dance, puppetry, Japanese somatic training and street dance forms. Rooted in concepts like 間 (ma, the in-between), she utilizes collaborative pedagogy, time-sharing, and movement to transmute learning and uplift diverse communities. Takeuchi holds a Doctor of Philosophy focused on the collection and maintenance of Asian-Australian performance practices.
Proposal
At MISHŌ Reina will focus on linguistic slippages and archival repair, working with her Bachan’s archival calligraphy and the ephemera shared across generations of her family. She will reconstruct her grandmother’s discarded calligraphy sheets through performance, puppetry and origami, filming and photographing her explorations against the backdrop of Fujino’s landscape.
Alongside this research, Reina is planning to lead community-based, family-friendly workshops focused on paper construction and shared storytelling through simple paper forms and movement. Bringing together local families and community members, the workshops will explore the intimate relationships between paper, movement, language and play.
The aim is for participants to make objects through simple, upcycled means, with a renewed sense of the simple joys of paper play.
