Mathieu Santori (b. 1994, Ajaccio, France) lives and works in Paris. His drawing practice spans Japanese paper, wallpaper, wood, and three-dimensional works.
Eroticism runs through the artist’s work, embodied in his gestures, forms, colours and subjects, revealing the sensuality of the technique. The delicacy of his line creates a tension with the strangeness of the scenes. The artist immerses us in an ambiguous feeling, somewhere between seduction and repulsion.
His three-dimensional work takes the form of objects and boxes. These objects of desire play on the notion of the forbidden. Wallpaper, a recurring medium in his practice, suggests both the domestic interior and the inner mind. Dreams, memories, reality, and fantasies become one.
Graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2026. He won the Contemporary Drawing Prize (2024)
and the Amis des Beaux-Arts de Paris Prize (2026).
His first solo exhibition took place at Galerie Suzanne Tarasiève, Paris (2025). His work has been held in selected group shows at Crush, Paris (2026), Drawing now, Paris (2025),
Galerie Michel Rein, Paris (2025).
His work is included in an institutional collection, Les Beaux-Arts de Paris Collection, Paris.
During the MiSHŌ residency, Mathieu would like to explore the surrounding area, observe the local flora and fauna outdoors, and take photographs as sources of inspiration and models for drawings.
Once fully inspired, he intends to work in the studio to create a piece for an upcoming exhibition in Antwerp, Belgium.
