Jolita Vaitkutė is a Lithuanian interdisciplinary artist based in Vilnius, working in installation, sculpture, and experimental visual art. Her practice explores relationships between the human body, nature, consumption, and transformation.

Using unconventional, often ephemeral materials like food, plants, soil, and discarded objects, she creates tactile artworks that challenge our perception of the familiar. Her practice embraces impermanence, allowing materials to decay, transform, or return to their original state.

Proposal

During her residency at MISHO, Jolita will develop BELLY PERSON: Japan Edition, an artistic research project exploring the reciprocal relationship between the human body and cultivated nature.

Through encounters with local farmers and communities, she will investigate how humans select, cultivate, preserve, and transform plants and how nature, in turn, shapes our bodies and identities local organic materials, experimental techniques, and photographic documentation, her research will examine processes of selection, adaptation, decay, and transformation.

Building on her recent exhibition in Seoul, the project approaches the belly as a system of intuition, selection, and memory that continuously negotiates what to accept, reject, preserve, and let go.

The residency will also offer an opportunity to observe how unfamiliar environments affect perception, intuition, and the creative process.

The residency was realized with the support of the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
